In the morning of January 14, 2020, a vessel of China Coast Guard, coded 5204, arrived at the Port of Manila to pay its first goodwill visit to the Philippines.
The Philippine side hosted a grand welcome ceremony at the port for the arriving China Coast Guard delegation. Main leaders of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) boarded the visiting CCG ship, where the two sides held friendly talks. Expressing concerns for the Philippine people because of the recent eruption of the Taal Volcano, the Chinese side held a donating ceremony to donate their food reserves, including rice, flour, edible oil, and self-heating food, to the local people. The Chinese and Philippine Coast Guard officers also boarded each other’s ships and held discussions.
In the afternoon of January 14, the third meeting of the Joint Coast Guard Committee (JCGC) on Maritime Cooperation between the China Coast Guard and the Philippines Coast Guard kicked off. The two sides will have an in-depth exchange of views on maritime law enforcement cooperation and other issues of common concern. They will summarize the JCGC’s experience and achievements since its formation and discuss how to strengthen the cooperation in key areas such as combating transnational crimes and conducting anti-drug operations, search and rescue, and humanitarian relief at sea. The two sides will also carry out joint search and rescue and firefighting exercises at sea, and hold a series of activities, including Open Day onboard their ships, friendly sports match, and deck reception.
